Xtreme Media Player’s purpose is to let you sit back and listen to the tracks in your music collection. Just load audio files (support for multiple types is provided) or select a playlist and Xtreme Media Player will play it for you. For a more enjoyable listening experience, switch to Visualizations mode and pick a visualization type. Sit back, enjoy the music, and enjoy the visualization.

If you have the latest Java version on your Windows, Linux, or Mac OS X-powered machine, you will be able to run Xtreme Media Player on it. Focusing on Microsoft’s Windows operating system, installing Xtreme Media Player is a simple matter: download an executable, run it, follow the instructions presented by a setup wizard.

Said wizard will ask you to choose between a Recommended, Full, Minimum, or Custom installation. The Full installation includes the following: core files, Start menu and desktop shortcut, audio and other file type associations, context menus.

By default, the interface uses the Playlist view – the music files are presented as a list at the top, the playback buttons are presented at the bottom. From the View menu or by using the Ctrl + K hotkey you can switch to Visualization view. There are 4 visualizations to choose from: spectrogram, spectrum bars, volume meter, and waveform.

It must be added that the interface provides support for multiple languages (English, French, Italian, Spanish) and for skins. The default one is Dark Sapphire and, as the name suggests, it is a dark-themed skin. If you don’t like it, there are plenty of other skins to choose from.

From a functionality point of view, Xtreme Media Player has the following to offer: open audio files, open URLs, load a playlist, automatically check for updates at startup, multilanguage support, skins, randomize, playing modes, visualizations.

Xtreme Media Player is released under a GNU General Public License, meaning it is a free application. Cons:
None that I could think of.

Pros

Since it’s Java-based, Xtreme Media Player works on multiple platforms. The interface’s feel can be changed by using skins. There are several visualizations. Support for multiple audio formats and for multiple languages is provided. Xtreme Media Player is a free application (consider making a donation).

Cons

ider making a donation if you enjoy using the application. Xtreme Media Player is incredibly easy to use, it is quite good looking, and it works as advertised. Go get it if you need a quite nice music player.
